____________________________________________________________August 2, 2011:The scheduled activities for the month of August include: driving production and test piles, casting footings, driving pipe piles and assembling materials for the temporary work trestle. Comcast Cable and AT&T will be relocating overhead lines between Mapp Road and Butler Avenue. Crews will also be constructing swales, excavating subsoil, constructing MSE wall on the West approach and installing temporary and permanent drainage structures. Water main extension work between S.W. Cornell Avenue and Margolo Lane will commence. ____________________________________________________________June 29, 2011:The scheduled activities for the month of July include: driving production and test piles, driving pipe pile, excavation of the dry detention ponds on the west end of the project and assembly of materials for the temporary work trestle. On the east end of the project, crews will work on the construction of the temporary haul road. Martin County Utilities will complete water main relocation work on the west end of the project and begin water main extension work between SW Cornell Avenue and Margolo Lane. FPL will be relocating overhead lines south of SW 36th Street between Mapp Road and St. Lucie Shores Drive. ____________________________________________________________May 25, 2011:The scheduled activities for the month of June include: clearing and grubbing on the east side of the St. Lucie River, excavation of ponds along SW 36th Street, assembly of materials for the temporary work trestle, pile template installation and driving production and test pile. Pipe pile driving will also continue. Relocation and deactivation of utilities should continue this month with the relocation of overhead lines south of SW 36th Street between Mapp Road and St. Lucie Shores Drive. Construction of a temporary haul road on the east end of project should begin. Martin County Utilities will begin water main relocation work on the west end of project including water main extension work between SW Cornell Avenue and Margolo Lane. ____________________________________________________________May 2, 2011:The scheduled activities for the month of May include: installing trestle, surveying, land clearing, relocating utilities and pile driving activities. ____________________________________________________________April 25, 2011:FDOT has received the final permit from the Coast Guard, allowing for work to begin in the St. Lucie River. ____________________________________________________________April 13, 2011:On Monday, April 18 at 11:30, Martin County is hosting a groundbreaking event for the Indian Street Bridge Project at the Jock Leighton Park located at 3755 SW Mapp Road, Palm City. ____________________________________________________________March 14, 2011:Land acquisition and pre-construction work for roadway and bridge improvements continues. Test pilings have been fabricated. Structural steel, pipe pile and other materials for the temporary work bridge (trestle) have been acquired. On March 8, 2011, Citizens for Smart Growth, Odias Smith and Kathie Smith, Plaintiffs, filed a Notice of Appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. On March 9, 2011, the same parties filed a motion to expedite the appeal and to stay any construction activity until the appeal is resolved. ____________________________________________________________March 3 , 2011:The Stuart / Martin County and Palm City Chambers of Commerce will host a Job Fair for prospective workers and potential vendors for the Indian Street Bridge Project on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Martin County Fair Grounds (2616 SE Dixie Highway in Stuart, Fl.) _____________________________________________________________July 9, 2010:Land acquisition, design and pre-construction work continues. Citizens for Smart Growth, Kathie Smith & Odias Smith have filed an appeal to the 11th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. The court has not yet acted on the appeal. Citizens for Smart Growth, Kathie Smith & Odias Smith have filed challenges to the SFWMD permit. The Florida Division of Administrative Hearings has scheduled a hearing for the permit protest for Oct. 25, 26 & 27, 2010. _____________________________________________________________June 3, 2010:The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the Indian Street Project Team hosted a Public Information Meeting from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010, at the Palm City Community Center. Approximately 200 people attended the event, where they could review renderings of the new bridge, roadway plans, watch a project video, provide feedback to the department and attendees were able to speak one on one with project representatives. _____________________________________________________________April 3, 2010:The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will host a Public Information Meeting for the Indian Street Bridge Project from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m., Thursday, April 29, 2010. The meeting will be held at the Palm City Community Center, located at 2701 SW Cornell Avenue in Palm City, Florida, 34990. For more information about this project, or the Public Information Meeting, please contact Beth Zsoka at 772-834-1298 or e-mail her at beth@qcausa.com. _____________________________________________________________February 9, 2010:The Florida Department of Transportation has authorized Archer-Western Contractors, Ltd., the Design-Build contractor, to commence on-site construction activities. These activities must be preceded by a 31 day notice and cannot proceed without all necessary permit approvals. _____________________________________________________________January 27, 2010:GEOTECHNICAL BORINGS This activity is necessary to provide soil information for use in the design process. Borings in the water will be accomplished by using a small float-mounted drill, while land-based borings will be done by using a portable drilling rig. These short duration activities will take place intermittently over the next several months. _____________________________________________________________December 4, 2009:The Design-Build team will begin field activities necessary for the completion of the design and permitting for the project. These activities include: Surveying- A small crew of surveyors will be gathering data for finalizing drainage and roadway work, using small hand tools for light clearing and surveying equipment. There will be several months of this activity taking place off and on as needed. Utility Locations- This is a surveying function to provide precise location of existing utilities so that the designer can determine if conflicts exist with the proposed design, and if relocations are necessary. The equipment used would be hand and powered soil augering, and some pavement coring, using a truck and coring devices, along with ground penetrating radar. This function can be accomplished in several weeks Pavement Coring- This function is necessary to determine the composition of the existing pavement makeup at the ends of the project (Mapp Rd. intersection and SR 76 intersections) A small truck with a coring device will be used on pavement only. This activity will take a day or two. _____________________________________________________________September 20, 2009:On Thursday, September 17, 2009, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District Four, executed a contract with Archer Western Contractors for the Indian Street Bridge project. The contract for the Consulting Construction Engineering and Inspection team (CCEI), CardnoTBE, has also been executed. The Indian Street Bridge project has been advanced due to the availability of federal stimulus funding. _____________________________________________________________September 14, 2009:NOTICE OF PROJECT STATUS CHANGE: On August 13, 2009, the Federal Highway Administration filed a Notice in the U.S. District Court regarding the award of a design build contract to Archer Western Contractors for the Indian Street Bridge. The Notice advised that a Notice to Proceed will be issuie to the contractor within 30 calendar days after execution of the Contrcat and not sooner thatn 30 days after the filing of the Notice filed in Court. The Indian Street Bridge project has been advanced due to the availability of federal stimulus funding. There has been no decision from the Court regarding the pending legal challenges. _____________________________________________________________August 4, 2009:SFWMD, RS&H, ACOE, and Manny Vera, & Associates crews will be on site starting Thursday (8/6/09) to flag & survey the wetland jurisdictional boundaries. This effort should only take a couple of days to complete. _____________________________________________________________April 1st, 2009:The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) recommended Indian Street Bridge for funding by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The field work will take approximately 3 weeks to complete and includes the following: 1. Soil borings will be taken in the FDOT/Marin County owned properties along SW 36th Street between Mapp Road and St. Lucie Shores Drive. The purpose of the borings is to test the soil conditions for the future dry swales that will run parallel to the roadway. 2. Soil borings will be taken along St. Lucie Shores Blvd. between SW All American Blvd. and SW 35th Street. The purpose of the borings is to test the soil conditions for the realignment of St. Lucie Shores Drive under the new proposed bridge. 3. Soil borings will be taken in the vacant parcel in the southeast corner of Kanner Highway and Indian Street. The parcel wraps around the east and south side of the gas station. The purpose of the borings is to test the soil condition and percolation rates for a proposed drainage pond. 4. Soil borings will be taken at the location of the existing culvert under Kanner Highway approximately 800 feet south of the Indian Street intersection.
